would you eat your moisturiser?

ingredientsApologies in advance for jumping up onto the soap box, but this is something I am extremely passionate about!

They say knowledge is power, so here are some gems of knowledge to get you thinking…..

Would you eat your moisturiser?

Nicotine patches…. do you know how they work? The are absorbed by the skin and end up in the blood stream.

Well your moisturiser is no different. Neither is your shampoo, your body wash, your face mask or your deodorant. Many ingredients in personal care products are questionable. And it only takes your body 26 seconds to absorb what you put on your skin.

The role of your liver is to cleanse your body of it’s toxic load. Our livers already have enough to deal with in this modern life – pollution, pesticides, excess hormones like oestrogen, etc. Your liver can only handle so much, and by using conventional personal care products, you are adding significantly more to the toxic load.

So would you eat your moisturiser? Read the ingredients and I’m sure you will be turned off! Now I’m not asking you to actually eat your moisturiser, but the ingredients should be just as natural as the ones you eat!

What to avoid?

Parabens have been found to act like oestrogen in your system (“xenoestrogens”), resulting in possible oestrogen dominance. This can lead to fertility issues, hormonal disruption, and early onset puberty. DEA is quite toxic and carcinogenic, and linked to stomach, liver and bladder cancer. Some of these chemicals were created as pesticides and insecticides and have corrosive properties! Propylene glycol is actually an anti-freeze!

You can easily find apps that scan the barcode of your personal care products and let you know how harmful they are (try Think Dirty)My problem with these apps were that they are generally from the US and some of the Australian barcodes were not recognisable.

Alternatively read the ingredients, and avoid:
