A few years ago, I purchased the Zazen Raindrop Shower Filter. I have now moved house twice, and found this product to be very simple to install. But why filter your shower water?
When your unfiltered drinking water is heated in a shower it is 3 x more toxic* to your body than drinking it! Chlorine and dangerous heavy metals are vapourised when tap water is heated. As you shower you inhale and absorb these vapours through your lungs and skin and these chemicals go directly into your blood stream. Recent studies* link excessive chlorine and chlorine vapour exposure to breast, kidney (renal) and bladder cancers. This can weaken your immune system and disrupt your respiratory, renal and central nervous systems! It can also cause dry irritated skin, acne and hair damage.

What is the Zazen shower filter?
The Zazen shower filter is designed to remove and reduce impurities from your shower water. It will create a healthier showering environment, reducing chemical exposure absorbed by the skin and lungs.
Pictured above is the Raindrop shower head, which is the one I purchased.
What does the shower filter remove
The Zazen Shower Filter:
- reduces 99% of chlorine and dangerous vapours;
- reduces 99% of water soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, copper;
- controls algae, bacteria, fungus, mould, parasites, viruses, and other pathogens;
- and removes iron oxides (orange discolouration and smell) and sulphide (sulphur smells).
Zazen shower filter range
Zazen have a range of shower filters to suit your individual bathroom, including a raindrop shower filter, handset shower filter, and a streamline shower filter.
These filters will fit most Australian and New Zealand standard fittings.
The Zazen Shower Filter Range meets the 3 Star Rating at 9 litres per minute.
The filter is contained within the shower head. It is easily installed into your shower head, taking only a couple of minutes.
The raindrop and hand held filters need replacing every 12 months, whist the streamline style only needs replacing every 24 months. Replacement filters cost $49.95 for the raindrop and hand held, and $99.95 for the streamline.
Depending on your filter head, each shower will ONLY cost you between 3 and 5 Australian cents!
There are many health benefits to filtering your shower water, but in addition, I have found it to significantly reduce soap scum and calcium build up in the shower. We only need to clean our shower on an ad-hoc basis, rather than once a week!
Whenever I travel, I really notice the difference in showering in unfiltered water, as I can instantly smell the chlorine. My skin feels “softer” when I use the Zazen filter, as I can feel dryness of “squeaky clean” when showering in chlorinated water.
The initial cost of the raindrop system is $200. This includes a ready to install with showerhead, shower arm & mounting bracket. Very highly recommended!
